Hansel & Gretel: Storytelling Session With Teacher Carla

The kids of Section 1, Grade 1 of the Paaralang Sentral Ng Cabuyao were treated to the story of Hansel and Gretel last Jan. 30, 2012.

Before the story began, the children were introduced to 5 words that were in the story. They were 1) forest 2) pebbles 3) roast 4) witch and 5) woodcutter. They were asked if they knew what the words meant. If they didn’t know what it meant, the word was explained to them.

Here is Teacher Carla telling the exciting story of Hansel and Gretel.

All the kids were excited and engaged during the activity, and actively participated in giving out answers. It was wonderful to see their interest in the story. Of course, most of the credit goes to Teacher Carla and her fellow volunteers for the exciting storytelling techniques and the visual aids they prepared.

After the story, Teacher Carla discussed the lessons of the story, and asked the kids what they would do if they were in the same situation as Hansel & Gretel. A recap of the 5 vocabulary words was also done.

As a post-reading activity, 5 children were chosen (among many eager volunteers) and brought up front to read out loud 1 sentence from the story.
